Compressor Rebuilds

Compressor Rebuild Capability That Protects Uptime

Compressors are the heart of an industrial refrigeration system. When they fail or begin to operate outside specification, the impact is immediate: capacity is reduced, energy use increases, and the risk of an unplanned outage rises sharply. American Refrigeration addresses this risk with a dedicated compressor rebuild capability designed specifically for industrial refrigeration applications.

Purpose-built facilities and processes

We operate multiple compressor rebuild facilities across the US equipped with the tooling, lifting, cleaning, and inspection resources required to handle large industrial units. These are not ad-hoc repairs in the back of a service shop. They are structured, controlled environments where compressors are logged, disassembled, evaluated, and rebuilt to clear standards. This is an important distinction for both customers and financial stakeholders: it reflects a repeatable, quality-driven process that is guaranteed by an industry leader.

Integrated with field service

A compressor rebuild program is most valuable when it is integrated with field service. Our service technicians can identify a compressor issue on site, coordinate removal, and hand it to the rebuild facility. Once the unit has been rebuilt, our field team can reinstall and commission it. This end-to-end model reduces the time between problem identification and return to service — which is critical for facilities that run near capacity.

OEM grade parts inventory

Compressor rebuilds often stall because the right parts are not available. To avoid that, American Refrigeration maintains an extensive inventory of OEM and OEM-grade components for the compressors most commonly found in ammonia and CO₂ plants. This allows us to proceed with rebuilds more quickly and provides customers with confidence that the unit is being returned to service with appropriate components.

Standardized rebuild process

  • Receipt and logging — the compressor is received, identified, and entered into our system.
  • Cleaning and disassembly — the unit is prepared for inspection.
  • Detailed inspection — wear, scoring, and damage are identified; probable root causes are noted.
  • Scope and approval method: we provide a clear scope of work and parts list so the customer can approve the rebuild.
  • Rebuild and reassembly — components are repaired or replaced, and the unit is reassembled to defined tolerances.
  • Testing and documentation — performance is verified where applicable; records are provided to the customer.
  • Return and reinstallation — the unit is returned to site and coordinated with service.

This structure produces predictable results and provides a record that can be maintained with the compressor’s service history.

Customer benefits of partnering with American Refrigeration’s Rebuild Team

  • Faster return to service through integrated service–rebuild–service workflow
  • Extended asset life when rebuilds are part of a planned maintenance strategy
  • Quality and consistency due to standardized processes and parts
  • Single-vendor accountability for removal, rebuild, and reinstallation
